Topic: Better naming for Geoscans

This is something that bothers me for a long time now -

"Area based" and "tile based" are IMHO bad names for the two main scanning ammo types.
especially new player that got their first contact with them can get really confused about it.

are there any suggestions from others?

i would rename the "Tile based geoscan" into "Detail-geoscan", but can't something for "Area based"

Area and Tile seems to make sense and I can't think of better names for them.
Once you know the difference it's not hard to tell them apart.

I think the names area and tile are fine.

I looked up the Geological industry and the only thing I could see where geoscan surveys.

So if anything they would be

Area-Scan would = Survey-Geoscan
Tile-Scan would = Mineral-Geoscan
Universal would = Mulit-Geoscan?

It can be a little confusing at the start, but you should be able to remember or figure it out.


If its still confusing, after a while playing; this is not a game for you.

If I were to make changes, I'd partially take from what Gremrod said;

Area changed to Survey - It kind of stipulates that you're surveying to see if there's something around. It makes sense because there's no real accuracy, it's just a general sweep to see what's up and if the area is worth pursuing.

Tile changed to Density - Using this, you probably already know what mineral is in the area and now it's just a matter of finding out the density of the vein/cache or whatever you'd like to call it.

Universal is alright as is, but Multi could work just as well. You don't know what's around, your range with it sucks. It's kind of a shot in the dark at everything.

Universal could be changed to 'tile scan' because that's all it does, it scan the tile your standing on for all types of minerals.

Edit: Or maybe:  Tile-Survey.

perhaps its the "tile/area-based" scan that bothers me.

the "based", and the "geo" is unnecessary - suggestion:

tile based geoscan changed to "grid scan"
area based geoscan changed to "area scan"

also the name of the ore should be infront:

Titan ore grid scan
Titan ore area scan

IMHO thats also better for the sorting in cargo or when choosing the ammo in reload dropdown (if that one is sorted alphabetical)
