Typical Thoughts of a new Player

Here i am, oh lets do the Tutorial. Hmm ok Move here, kill this deliver this what i have to do mining fu ... ok lets do it, more killing whoa new bot. Ok now that i know the roots lets get some serious guns and blow up stuff. OH WTF ammo is expensive ! Whatever lets buy 1k, ok im broke but i will blow up stuff and get it back in no time. *Running to next red dots that arnt trainings mission drones* Targeting ..... *yawn* still more targeting hmm i need to fit the handy module i got from the turorial next time ... more targeting *LOCK* Hitting Space for great justice zooom zoooom bling bling BOOM , *looting* Repeating with retreats and repairs while tabbing out and reading forums.

Yeah mission done killed 10 bots woho 27k nic richer (3k went to noob corp)  and my 1337 Loot woho. Back to base , selling OH WAIT i dont have more monney than before !!! Well ok a tiny bit but not much. It will take me forever to get that new bot QQ , perperuum is boring.

Oh wait someone said transport missions are good , trying it out making monney but Booooooring, Braindeath. Afk mining brings monney well..... NO WAY !

***********************
Well tbh PO reward braindeath activitys with no real expenses more than active PVE at the beginning. Raise Kernel Prices again for the lower Bots that Newbies hunt in their first month. Leave the rest as it is or make ammo cheap.

That would a Start

Join non-noob corp. big_smile

But ye, PVE could be bit better on Alpha to entertain new guys. They need something to keep them in-game, and not many have brain-cell to find non-noob alpha corp.

The cargo hold amount of early mining bots should be adjusted to make it difficult to mine solo effectively. Hence forcing one to group up with other miners and haulers. If it becomes a group activity then it’s more fun.

Make more tiles with less ore, that would make one have to change tiles more often, making mining a bit more of an active career than it currently is. The tiles should in some wqy or another be easier to find perhaps though.

Add respawning npcs on the mining spots, to make it impossible to mine without an escort too. People will have to group up, it will give a job to everyone. Make said npc drop ore for example.

Transport, missions are also totally boring. Put npcs along the way that can actually be a threat to you if you don’t have an escort.  Increase payout so that everyone in group can get hosed with NIC.

Most players want to figure out the game for a few weeks first, before joining a corp. If they get bored after a few weeks, probably wont happen.

Perpetuum is a grindy game. Due to the sandbox nature it always will be. By that I mean that all the bots are player created, so someone has grind the resources to create them, and if your not in a large corporation, you have to grind the NIC to buy them.

The time-grind between making and earning needs to be reasonably balanced; or I should say will natually balance because of the player driven market.

New players will always be at a disadvantage when they are competing to buy items that corporations and vetern players still desire, as they will just naturally have greater buying power, and the price will reflect that.

Starter NIC sources where reduced because NIC/hour was easier to earn with starter missions than advanced ones.

TL;DR - This game has a high barrier to entry and it will remain so until the game matures enough to have a greater seperation between starting areas and end-game areas.

Doesn't it make more sense that you learn the game a lot quicker from corp-mates?

In some regards. In others one has to factor in the role drama and other personal interactions play in player corps. Experience helps in that regard, but it also means one gets to the point that its just not worth it any more. Which is one of the reasons I'm still in SWA in EVE after more than five years.  Perpetuum is an interesting game. But its only a shadow, or shell of what it may some day become.

It all depends on the Dev's resources/talent and drive.  It also depends on having enough of a player base stick with one through the low points in order to reach the later stages. For that, they need to be able to show people what they plan for and give them reason to *believe* that it can be achieved.

They obviously have some MAJOR technical talent on hand, as this was one of the most stable client/server launches I've seen in years. But thats only one piece of the puzzle.  Putting it all together will determine how far the game eventually goes.  Most people would never have dreamed that EVE would turn out the way that it did, when looking at it at its launch more than 6 years ago.  Who knows how far Perpetuum will eventually go?

If you can't kill it, don't make it mad.

Re: I have bad feeling about future success of this game... :-(

i enjoy perpetuum and hope it continues to evolve . like stated above , steve wasnt born in a day . nor is it perfect today . all in all there's a game out there for everybody .  enjoy your game time and let devs do their thing . get in a corp , meet some people have fun . im only a rookie myself and look forward to the game having a bright future

Re: I have bad feeling about future success of this game... :-(

I would enjoy Perpetuum if I actually had time to play big_smile

Besides that I think the possibilities to gain NIC are quite bad. As miner/harvester/transporter you might be able to gain NIC but at the cost of your mental health. As combat char it is almost as mental health killing since you got to run around for years to farm some loot or kernels, run again around for years to sell it and besides that have to invest tons of NIC in ammunition.

Having said that it is WAY more comfortable being in such a great corp as CIR!

I think one possible solution or at least pain easer would be being able to rent a NPC driven transport bot. Renting fee per hours game time and size of cargo. Possibly with the option to buy equipment upgrades to it (similar like car rental). That way even solo players or players at time zones with low population could replace a second player with an NPC and thus focus on their primary activities.

Re: I have bad feeling about future success of this game... :-(

Mission rewards do not scale well for the added difficulty and time it takes to do them.  Insurance fix is good, messing with the market and resourses... BAD.

Re: I have bad feeling about future success of this game... :-(

When i first started playing,i got my *** in a assault, because i knew a light bot wasnt cutting it.
Then i looked up kernel prices.. then head out to find them and killed those npc's for a few hrs.. and i made 1-2Mil a day.Missions in this game just arent worth it atm..(higher levels, you need to go too far and reward sucks.time/reward isnt balanced) wait for the patch for that improvement.
that got me into a mech and from that day on i joined Enclave(Or for you, any corp you prefer that lives on beta..) and let the fun begin!I can tell ya, if  i would still be on Alpha today and havent joined Enclave i would have quit a long time ago..
Beta/Enclave put me on a roalercoaster of events from the day i joined.

Hey warhawkz! Glad to see you posting, I hope more people realize how much fat loot they can eat on your island! That's right guys, you can join up with the biggest and fattest group that nutcupped the game . Feel proud as you find how easy it is to farm and gain loot. There's no one for you to practically fight if you join them. You can thank the guys posting here trying to recruit you for that.

Now you could turn the other way and be smarter, but for the usual people not wanting to think like that, well, there's much greener pastures...

NOTHING SAYS FUN LIKE GETTING FAT ON DOMHALARM! GO ENJOY YOURSELF!

As a serious note, making it easier for alpha goers may inspire more diversity.

I think he's mad that you needed to ally with cheaters to play the game. I could be wrong, though?

lol I think they confuse being mad with poking fun at their style of play.

Nothing like a proud zerg to taunt along on a leash kaz.

You should. As long as you guys are around. I'm not sure how great the game is doing if they can't afford to boot blatant exploiters.
