Topic: R.I.P Perpetuum

There is no reason to recommend this game anymore.

I thank the Devs for a once entertaining game full of hope for the future. After 6 years this hopefull future never materialised into more players that are needed for these type of games to be any fun.

Any last words?

RIP PERPETUUM

Our only hope is that they sell this game to a large corp., that has the money to properly advertise and develop this game.  It could have been BIGGER than Eve!

Such a niche game is a hard sell. Anyone willing to invest expect a return, it can be turned around but it is obviously a huge risk, few, if any are willing to take. Investment can only come from those who have a passion and understand this niche game quite well and does not mind the risk.

Edit: One of the issues I have come across during development in general is not staying true to the niche and trying to please those that are not willing to take risks for a greater reward, or don't understand  between griefing and player made content.
For instance, the first sign for trouble came from this insurance fraud that fell hard on a particular entity which as far as they were concerned it was 'part of the gameplay', but Devs decided it was harmful to the game as a whole.

Wrong move as it was a level playing field and it rewarded the smart players, and the move did more harm than good. This examples has happened all along it's development catering to a sort of 'Protect the carebear' mentality instead of rewarding gameplay and community. I think Syndic understands this better than anyone.

RIP PERPETUUM

Re: R.I.P Perpetuum

I have contradictional oppinion to you Celebro. So in the end it was a situation like many other when every reaction of Devs was wrong for some and important for others.

What others did it favour? There is like 10 dudes left playing.

Re: R.I.P Perpetuum

Im still waiting on a big patch that makes me really happy. Like more bots or even splitting the classes a bit like a masker bonus version a dps bonus version. Something to add flavor, balancing seems very broken. The dev's who themselves admit to not playing the game fell in to the trap of listening to the player base, which self admitted is toxic and selfish.

I think zoom and co made a big step at telling the playerbase fu after the big rebalance patch. But looking at the big pic it likely alienated the rest of the on the fence players. Most of my green pilot friends left for good after that patch.

Stepping forward devs need to keep putting patchs out and using database info for rebalancing leaving selfish player opinions out. Putting up votes for game play changing mechanics would likely help in the short term.

I think this is an good way to go for starters.
Same models, different colours, different mod slots, narrower specialisations through bonuses.

Extend the concept through all classes and sizes of bot. Indy bots could be specialised to provide real Logi bots or liquid/ore miners for example.

It strikes me that there is a lot of content that can be created by just adding a few tens of rows to the database and tweaking a few formulae.

Most of those problems stemmed from listening to Jita in the early days. A while ago Zoom made it quite clear the Devs were no longer considering Jita's feedback, but by then damage had already been done with the "balance" patch (thanks to Burial, Annihilator, and Jita).

Last time I swapped words with Zoom he was on track with great stuff for the game, unfortunately he either took a hiatus or for some reason it's taking 6 months to do changes he said would take 2 weeks. Beta 2's for example, never got the field terminal & highway rework, and that was crucial to adding value to the otherwise worthless islands.

Perpetuum's story is unfortunately, mostly about lesser players metagaming the Devs to get a leg-up in-game. I got banned for account sharing because of mass petitioning in the middle of a war, when even today the majority of the population is still account sharing, gifting and swapping. My main account is still banned on these forums, indefinitely, because feelings were hurt.

Ultimately it's been a fun 6 years. But I'm starting to feel like we're coming to the end of the road. Maybe it'll be the beginning of something new, who knows.

your request for more specialised robots contradicts with someone elses complaint about the inablilty to shoot down walls with any weapon he wants to (which is a kind of specialisation).

please look at the bigger picture.

DEVs don't reall "listen" to player requests, never really did much. The only do what the think that is right for their game.

What!? Anni, has a small piece of your brain fallen out this morning?

Lobo's suggestion of greater specialisation contradicts someone else's suggestion and therefore he's not seeing the big picture? wtf are you babbling about.

This is a dead game going no where fast. All of you guys would be better off just moving on & learning to annoy & troll a whole new game game smile

Steam couldn't save it. It just prolonged the inevitable. This is what you get when you dont have any effective advertising for a product.

When perpetuum finally shuts down Im logging back onto TS just to hear Syndic laughing his *** off big_smile <3

Re: R.I.P Perpetuum

Just fix the advertising, it's broken for some reason.
And make constant updates on game in blog, even if it's not something significant. So it won't look dead.
Simple.

Wow, I would have thought someone with JOKE under their name might understand sarcasm and maybe irony; apparently not.

Zoom was very quick to fix the problem with new TLDs not being allowed as email addresses to register new accounts under. It seems they still want new players (or at least accounts in my case big_smile ).
