Zoom  [developer]  Dec 8 @ 5:46pm Unfortunately when we can't reproduce the lag ourselves, logic says it's caused by something beyond our control.
Ville   19 hours ago Just because you can't reproduce doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It just mean your testing it the wrong way.
Zoom  [developer]  17 hours ago I didn't say it doesn't exist, I'm just saying that when 5 guys are complaining on the forum and the others are playing fine, then either those 5 guys are doing something very special that we couldn't figure out yet, or it's some external factor.

Apparently Chemist, Ville and you are doing something VERY SPECIAL.

Re: LAGS!

Chemist: it's not like our server handles anyone in a special way, letting someone in but not the other. If this is not an issue with your firewall or your ISP, then my only other tip would be that your IP gets blacklisted for whatever reason by the datacenter. Unlikely, but if this is the case then a virus/malware scan would be in order for you.

Re: LAGS!

Yeah ... I'm specifically playing. and therefore lag .. lol

Re: LAGS!

And for the love of god don't mix not being able to connect and lag and whatever else, they are all different issues with different causes.

First was big lag ~1-2mins (chat), then i disconnect and can't connect ~3mins.

Re: LAGS!

Currently i'm lagged!

Re: LAGS!

AND! Forum lagged too! Zoom! Same IP?

and any other site work fine. (perp-kill, for example).

Re: LAGS!

Who game does not lag behind last month: show your traceroute.
I'm sure it's ;:№?%*№ voxel.net
Zoom, you can also solve this problem.

Re: LAGS!

the moment Chemist had log-in issues, i had a lagspike ingame too. Should have been visible in my stream, but the bad compression ... sad (have to work on that)

*Disclaimer: This post can contain strong sarcasm or cynical remarks. keep that in mind!
Whining - It's amazing how fast your trivial concerns will disappear

Re: LAGS!

Yeah that voxel.net shows 1-2000ms for me and everyone I asked but no apparent lag ingame. Could be some defense mechanism on that particluar node, as the Perpetuum server itself pings fine.

Re: LAGS!

That's all great, but there are thoughts how to fix it? Forum also lags now. A feeling that I'm sitting on the modem 2400bps. hmm In the meantime, any other site opens almost instantaneously. Can show a Twitch. smile
Important for me to find a solution. Some of our guys are the same lags, so they play in other games. sad

Re: LAGS!

By "some of our guys" do you mean people from around your area/country?

Re: LAGS!

DEV Zoom wrote:

From Country. But do not cling to it. smile Problem on your side. Very close to the server. smile I already gave screenshots and tracing. With Russia, Ukraine ... Other countries, please note. smile And the traffic is very very different. But everywhere (and you as well) you can see some problems on the penultimate node - voxel.net.

Yesterday the guys from my unit saw as me a throw back, but I kept going. They see how I move, but I do not see how they move.
A feeling that the client sends packets to the server, but does not accept.
Maybe the client is trying for a while to wait for the packet (which, for example, lost) and skip all the rest? Because this occurs periodically.

I have some issues!

NOW I got kicked by Server, on BETA! And have big LAG issues. My internet is good enough, because TS3 is working, and 7 Gb/sec also. 25 ms.

Some players also experiencing LAG "spikes", at some times in a day.

What?  You think a 2000+ ping is normal behavior and not indicating a problem?  No.. where there is smoke there is fire and anything that goes over 80 should be looked at,  let alone several thousand.

I know it's like pulling teeth to get a 3rd party host to investigate a network issue but you have to remember Perpetuum is not a normal hosted application - like a website, it's a dedicated steaming service (similar to netflix). Read about what their service acts like when a switch in Alaska fails. You'd never expect the side effects. Perpetuum's level of service demands higher standards or else THIS *** happens.

Re: LAGS!

No I didn't say that. What I meant is that it doesn't necessarily mean that you have 2000+ms lag there, but rather that it has some throttling of some kind for pings to avoid attacks or something. Which is reinforced by the fact that if you would have lag then you would have it on every subsequent node too. But correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not an expert on this.

Network defense software doesn't throttle suspicious traffic, they outright drop it.  Not to mention the ICMP packets used in a tracerout or ping are standard network diagnostic tools. They don't register as hostile on NIDSs unless their origin is suspicious or they reach flood level - which a ping or tracerout from a single computer is not capable of reaching by itself.

Any intentional configuration that introduces that kind level lag to the network is in direct conflict with that company's business model. There's something weird going on with that host.
