The title explain it.
Now you cant use autopilot when you are PVP flag, because you cant "follow" in PVP flag, I would use it.

What is this ~Design Philosophy~ you speak of? Is it something written expressly? I think the rest of the community would love to hear about it.

its what you see when you look at the history of patches.
Just try to write a summary what makes you put up a pvp flag, and/or is disable while a pvp flag buff is active.
After that, try to find out WHY those rules are there.
if your finished with that, you should wonder why a followbot does only break follow if the leading bot gets PvP flagged.
The given the fact that active RSA, RAR or ET will PvP flag your supporter bot, the follow command should do the same.
Or wonder why weapons and shields still cycle when you alt-tab under a PvP flag.
Or even better - why NEXUS buffs or Detection/masking make auto-flag you for PvP AND combat when you see or buff someone with a PvP flag.
all those have a common theme that can be traced back to a "Bandaid fix" in early beta.

1-) NO to follow a flagged robot.
2-) YES to autopilot when flagged.
The new forest obstacles, make us more dependant from the AP.
autopilot 100x more powerful than follow as it navigates through stuff
PVP flag follow bot mechanic was removed to combat multiple accounts with one user. Inda, being a more so solo kinda guy was on the forefront of accepting this change, and generally blessing it.
Now out of the blue this come to us. Do we realize that this will undo the last aforementioned change?
Gratefully, the DEV's can see past second base on this one, and it shouldn't ever happen.
Side note:
If your already driving your combat bot, why would this be needed? Answer, its not! Well, only if your running just one account.

I really like to autopilot back to base while basking in the blood of my fallen enemys and playing other games.
It just seems like a boost to multi account use really but it's no big deal
