Topic: Extreme high ping

Since a few days, I get ridiculous high pings, up to 5k. The npc rats are jumping around, everything takes ages, it's unplayable...

I tried the tracerouter, but it doesn't produce anything up to the server.

Yes, you have to move around after you've opened the profiler - you will see it filling up with data.

Re: Extreme high ping

Okay, my ping got better today, but is still fairly high (about 200, usually i have around 30).

I did a traceroute again while moving around, also screenshotted that network thingy again after it.

Re: Extreme high ping

Problem still not resolved, average ping now up to 500-1000 again...

I'd really like to play this game. sad

Re: Extreme high ping

It's hard to tell.

The most important clue here is the graph - you can see that the mode of the data is pretty much the lowest possible datapoint, I'm guessing around 40-50ms. In other words, some of the game data can go as fast as the ICMP traceroute shows.

Unfortunately as you can see on the spikes, there's an occasional problem: This can be because quite a few things. Computer not loading packets fast enough (e.g. NIC driver), routing (either your own or your provider) holding down certain data streams and prioritizing others (ICMP over TCP). Really no telling.

My tip would be to kill all other networking software on your LAN, disable wireless, shut off all other computers, see if it helps.

Re: Extreme high ping

I'm watching 3 of my clients where the ping is slowly but steadily increasing from ~180 to 600+ and still rising.  Running traceroutes on all 3 clients shows nothing.  I think this is server lag.  Has been fine for days, no idea what changed.

EDIT: ... and then slowly back down again to normal

This is pretty much the same thing my client does now. Instead of constant high pings, it starts from ~100 and then goes up and down, up and down, sometimes up to 1,5k ms, then gradually getting better to ~100 again. Ratting is no problem, but you won't see me pvping as long as it does this.

Sometimes one of my clients completely disconnects. Funnily only one of them, not all.

Re: Extreme high ping

It seems to be some pretty stupid routing error. At 14-15 it's already close to the game server, but then at 16 it goes back to New York for some reason...

Also from 1 to 7 it seems to be all your local network, and that's an awful lot of jumps just for that. Is this some university network or something?

Re: Extreme high ping

I just want to throw this out here, we had a member named Kustomrod.  Kustom is in Au.  He had TERRIBLE lag and constantly studder and high pings forever.  One day his router magically died, he replaced it with a higher end router.  After that he NEVER had a problem with perp again.  Just cause you can look at porn fine doesn't discount the fact that your router might be failing or your losing information on your home network.

I have my main gaming rig wired straight to a power kit to the modem and spilt another power line kit off to a router and it does stellar atm 150 MS ping.  when I am behind the router it goes to 220ish.  Food for thought.

I'm not an expert, but that is definitely not the solution in my case. Perpetuum is the ONLY application that I have these problems with. Eve Online, Team Fortress 2, World of Tanks, War Thunder, Teamspeak, Skype, etc. etc. have no problems at all.

Also, last week my problems magically disappeared, I had my usual 20ms ping again. Last weekend, the problems returned, Sunday evening EU TZ.

Currently I'm just trying to live with it, my internet provider wasn't able to find any problems either. I can still farm bots with 500-1500ms ping. PvP is impossible though.

I get huge lag in game (from 50ms to 1000-2000ms) whenever I have perp clients running together with Steam.

Closing Steam always fixes it for me, ping rapidly descends back to its normal 50-60ms range.
